Welcome back to Kabooooom’s guide to NYCC! The Con will be opening at 10am on Saturday, Day Three, so be sure to get in line early! Now onto the schedule of video games panels!
Marvel Interactive: Marvel Video Games (1:15 pm – 2:15 pm)
Official Description: Learn all about an amazing newly announced Marvel game for 2012 from Activision, plus Spider-Man: Edge of Time, X-Men Destiny, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, the Marvel Universe MMO, Marvel Pinball, Super Hero Squad Online, Super Hero Squad: Comic Combat (using THQ’s uDraw peripheral), and Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet for Nintendo 3DS. This includes exciting new details about the future of other Marvel games via exclusive trailers, surprise reveals, and Q&A with the game creators from some of the industry’s top publishers.
Why We Like It: We love super heroes and we love video games, so this panel is a bit of a no brainer. Spider-Man Edge of Time and X-Men Destiny were pretty good and I’m interested to see what announcements they’ll have about the new Marvel MMO. We’re also going to be receiving information on Activision’s big Marvel release for 2012.
Ultimate Marvel Versus Capcom 3 (2:45 pm – 3:45 pm)
Official Description: The wait’s almost over as the much anticipated followup to last year’s monster fighting hit is only a month from launch. Come to this panel to hear the latest news about this legendary fighting game franchise straight from producer Ryota Niitsuma. Get an exclusive behind-the-scenes peek as well as a chance to come onstage to showcase your fighting skills against each other for fantastic prizes. Followed by a Q&A session.
Why We Like It: Marvel Versus Capcom 3 was one of the most anticipated games over the last few years and there has been an outcry over why they didn’t just make all this DLC instead of a new release (though from what I understand it was because of the Tsunami earlier this year). Ultimate Marvel Versus Capcom has added new characters (Rocket Raccoon. ROCKET RACCOON PEOPLE), modes and revamped the game itself so look for it in November!
Location: American Airlines Theater, 1A06
Dark Horse and Bioware Present: Mapping the Mass Effect Universe (4:00 pm – 5:00 pm)
Official Description: With comics, novels, movies, and a third game on the horizon, Mass Effect has become one of the largest science fiction franchises in the world. Join Mass Effect lead writer, Mac Walters, along with Dark Horse Director of Public Relations, Jeremy Atkins and Director of Custom Programs, Nick McWhorter, for an exploration of what makes Mass Effect so special! Fans will get a first hand look at the upcoming comics series, the Art of the Mass Effect Universe, as well as a taste of Mass Effect 3! With announcements to be made, surprise guests, prizes and giveaways, we couldn’t give you more reasons to attend!
Why We Like It: Now this isn’t exactly a video game panel. It’s primary purpose is to discuss the comic tying into the adventures of the characters from the games. There is supposed to be a taste of Mass Effect 3 at the panel so we may see a new clip or announcement regarding the game so I’m going to be watching over this one intently!
Dragon Age: Mark of the Assassin (5:15 pm – 6:15 pm)
Official Description: Join BioWare and members of the Dragon Age development team as they discuss the Dragon Age franchise with a special focus on the latest Dragon Age adventure Mark of the Assassin. Dragon Age team members will be on hand to answer questions on the latest Dragon Age DLC adventure and the Dragon Age franchise.
Why We Like It: You’ll be able to speak to the team that has worked on Dragon Age about the franchise itself and the newest DLC, Mark of the Assassin. They’ve put some serious work into these games and any chance to speak to Bioware is a delight!
Resident Evil (6:15 pm – 7:15 pm)
Official Description: Share in the joy of Resident Evil! 2011 marks the 15th anniversary of the legendary video game franchise that gave fear a face and horror a home. Capcom declares Saturday to “Resident Evil Day,” so please come dressed as your favorite classic and new RE characters! Come find out the latest information about the newest entries to the Resident Evil franchise: the brutal truth behind Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City with producer, Rey Jimenez, Resident Evil: Revelations for the Nintendo 3DS, the gorgeous re-imagining of Resident Evil 4 HD and Resident Evil Code Veronica X HD, plus some surprises! Followed by a Q&A session.
Why We Like It: This horror game has helped define the genre for video games since it’s introduction. At this panel we’ll see more about Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, the new team based third person shooter they’ll be releasing, as well as the HD remakes they’ve put out recently. If you love video games, zombies and gore, this is the panel to be at.
Location: MTV Theater, 1A10
Halo Anniversary Discussion (7:30 pm – 8:30 pm)
Official Description: In just 30(ish) measly days Halo turns ten years old! Join Dan Ayoub, Kevin Grace, bs angel, and others from 343 Industries discussing where Halo has been and where it is going.
Why We Like It: Halo was the FPS that transformed the genre into what it is today. 343 Industries, former Bungie employees that transferred over to continue work on Halo, are releasing Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary which is a remake of the original Halo game. Next year though they will be releasing Halo 4, the start of an all new trilogy for Master Chief.
