NEWS: ‘Avengers vs. X-Men’ Coming in 2012

Yeah, you read that right.

USA Today reports that in April 2012, Marvel will pit Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against everybody’s favorite mutants in a 12 issue bi weekly series by the Marvel Architects: Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron and Johnathan Hickman. The series also promises big name artists such as Jim Cheung, Frank Cho, John Romita Jr. and Olivier Coipel.

The story will revolve around the return of the Phoenix Force. The X-Men’s desire to protect Hope Summers, the first mutant born after “M Day,” clashes with the Avengers need to protect the world from devastation. The return of the legendary cosmic entity promises that fists will be a-flyin’.

Brian Michael Bendis will script the prologue issue due in March. The issue will focus on Scarlet Witch, a character who Bendis told USA Today has “been on a road of almost impossible-to-perceive redemption over the last few years and now is going to come face-to-face with the Avengers.”

It appears that the Age of Fanfiction really is upon us. Maybe that’s okay.
