SDCC 2013 Bucket List: Opening Day

935042_4416563792442_36486684_nWhile many attendees were treated to an early viewing of the floor during SDCC’s Wednesday Preview Night, today is the first official day of Comic-Con!

For geeks and pop culture enthusiasts alike, there promises to be some wonderful programming today but for those that wish to take their Con experience a little further, there is plenty to see on the floor and off-site as well.

Here are a few events that we feel will be great additions to your Con memories:

Dave McKean – Signing at the Dark Horse booth at 5pm. The master artist will be at the Dark Horse booth signing promotional items distributed by Dark Horse as well as your other items. Please note that while the booth may allow fans to bring more than one item for the signing, the number and type of items will be limited in some fashion. In other words, don’t get greedy.

James O’Barr – Signing at the IDW booth at 2pm. Fans of the dark comic series The Crow, will not want to miss this signing. While you’re at it, make sure to let James know how you feel about that Crow reboot that keeps being pushed around Hollywood.

Elder Scrolls Food Truck – corner of Park Blvd. and Imperial Ave, FREE FOOD 11:30-3pm. Veteran attendees know that eating at the Convention itself is a fool’s game. The prices are high, the food isn’t great, and, according to Fanboys vs. Zombies, eating the food could turn attendees into flesh eating zombies. Head offsite and visit the Elder Scrolls food truck for some free grub!

Geek and Sundry – Jolt N’ Joes, 4th & J, 4pm. Geek and Sundry will be hosting fan events and meet and greets all throughout the convention. Today, fans will have the chance to meet Felicia Day and Jason Mewes while they discuss their new movie, Rock Jocks.

Escape Plan Screening – Reading Cinemas Gaslamp, 5pm. Fans who wish to see the new action flick The Escape plan, starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, with the stars of the film will have their chance today! Throughout the day, Summit Entertainment will be giving away tickets to attend the screening at their booth and through social media giveaways. Fans can also line up at the theater for their chance to see the film but space will be limited, so get there early!

MTV2 Party in the Park – Petco Park, 7pm. After a long day at the Con, attendees who still hold their badges can attend this event which promises live performances and surprise guests. Fans of the television show Teen Wolf may want to mark this one on their calendar…

Starz Black Sails Screening – Reading Cinemas, 8pm. Starz will be presenting a sneak preview screening of their latest series. The first 200 people in line will receive a wristband to attend the after party with the stars of the show.

20130717_184944eOne’s Haven Party – Sidebar, 8pm. Fans of the show who were lucky enough to grab those invites to the event will get to have some fun hanging out with the cast of the television show Haven, as well as some surprise guests.

BOOM! 8th Annual Drink Up – Hilton Bayfront Odysea Bar, 9pm. This may possibly be the only event that puts creators and fans together without all of that exclusivity: the event is open to all.

Is there more going on today? Of course there is! However, finding those surprise events is half the fun of SDCC.

Remember not to limit your experience to the exhibit hall floors, as chances are, that there is something special right around the corner!
