This Week in Posters is a weekly feature updating you on the latest and greatest in pop art / poster / screen print releases, street art, gallery openings, and art events. Check out what’s coming your way this week!
PRINT / POSTER RELEASES
Kevin Tong’s “Bird Dream of The Olympus Mons” print will be available this week as a timed edition, from July 27th to August 3rd, 2013 on the Phone Booth Gallery Website. The screen print measures 24 x 26 inches and will be available both framed and unframed.
Mr. Brainwash will be releasing four colorways of “Poppy” at the MBW online store on Monday, July 29th at 12 PM PST. “Poppy” measures 30 x 22.5 inches and is printed on hand-torn archival art paper. Each color has an edition of 35 costs $300, and is signed, numbered, and thumb printed by Mr. Brainwash himself. The Check out the animated .gif below for all color options!
Shepard Fairey has not one, not two, not three, but four Black Sabbath screen print posters coming out this week! The prints will be released on July 30th, 2013, at a random time between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM (noon) PST at the Obey online print shop. Each print measures 18 x 24 inches, has an edition of 125, and costs $50.
Phantom City Creative will be releasing three prints this Tuesday, July 30th, at 2 PM EST in their online shop. The first two prints picutured below, “GHOSTS N’ GOBLINS” and “CASTLEVANIA”, measure 9 x 24 inches, have edition sizes of 100, and cost $40 each. The third print, “SWORDSMEN, GANGSTERS AND GHOSTS”, measures 18 x 24 inches and has an edition of 100, and also will cost $40.
Victor Ash’s “Astronaut Cosmonaut” screenprint is now available online for € 200 (or approximately $265 USD). A silkscreen production of Ash’s famous wall piece, the large format print measures 82 x 126 cm and is printed on 300gsm bright white paper.
Later this week, 1xRUN will also be featuring sales of Stella Im Hultberg’s “If You Could Hide In Your Dreams” ($65, max. edition of 60) and Roger Gastman’s “Tools of Criminal Mischief : The Cans II” ($50, max. edition of 100).
Braddock Tiles is offering a limited run of infamous street artist Revok’s “550 Helena St.”. The piece, measuring 13” x 19”, is a digital print on archival Canson Mi-Teintes paper, embossed by Braddock Tiles, and has an edition size of just 250.
“Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy” by Tracie Ching is available now at SpokeArt. The limited edition giclee is produced on 300# Italian cold press watercolor paper, printed using archival Epson HDR inks, hand numbered, 18 x 24 inches. The print has an edition of 200 and costs $35.
Tiny Showcase is currently featuring two Jack Hudson pieces for sale, “Preserved” and “The Moth’s Trail”. The prints measure 6 x 8 inches for framing, with an image area of approximate 5 x 7 inches. The art is printed on 290gsm natural white print making paper, and each comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The two prints are available for $35 as a set, or $20 each ($130 each framed). A portion of the sales will go directly to the Alzheimer’s Society, Hudson’s charity of choice.
GALLERY SHOWS, EXHIBITIONS, AND EVENTS
June 29th – October 13th: Daniel Clowes at Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Chicago, IL
Daniel Clowes, creator of acclaimed comics such as Ghost World, David Boring, Art School Confidential, and Eightball, is currently featured at MCA Chicago’s exhibit, “Modern Cartoonist: The Art of Daniel Clowes”. The exhibit contains original black ink and Zipatone drawings, in addition to gouache paintings of the covers of Ghost World and other publications, are on display with originals of all of Clowes’s publications to date. July 2013: BASK at 1AM Gallery, San Francisco, CA
BASKS’s “Übermensch” urban art solo show runs for a few more days at the 1AM gallery. Recently commissioned to create art featured in Iron Man 3, BASK’s work displays influence from comic books and propaganda. The show features a Superman installation wall and an Avengers set, along with plenty more artistic subversions of pop culture’s biggest icons. Check out the details on the 1AM website.
July 27th – August 14th: Theo Ellsworth at GR2
Theo Ellsworth’s “Laughing Ghost Nation” show opens on July 27th and runs through mid-August. More information is located over at the Giant Robot website.
August 9th – August 24th: Cuyler Smith at Bottleneck Gallery, Brooklyn, NY
Cuyler Smith’s series of cropped pop-culture icons will be on display at Brooklyn’s Bottleneck Gallery, with an opening reception on August 9th at 7:00 PM and online sales beginning on August 10th, around 12:00 PM (noon) EST. August 2013: Dabs Myla at White Walls Gallery, San Francisco, CA
Known for their cheekily raunchy work, husband-and-wife duo Dabs Myla will be featured in an “intimate installation” at the White Walls gallery. The opening reception is scheduled for August 17th at 7 PM, and you can click on over to the gallery website for more details.
September 10th – October 5th: Prisma Collective at Distinction Gallery, Escondido, CA
