This Week in Posters is a weekly feature updating you on the latest and greatest in pop art / poster / screen print releases, street art, gallery openings, and art events. Check out what’s coming your way this week!


PRINT / POSTER RELEASES

“Afterthought” by Mars-1 and Ben Horton’s “As The Crow Flies” are now available in limited quantities for purchase on 1xRUN. “Afterthought” measures 28 x 24 inches, and “As The Crow Flies” measures 16 x 20 inches.

On Thursday, August 8th, Shepard Fairey’s “Pedestal” poster will be available at the Obey online print shop a random time between 10 AM and 12 PM PST. The 18 x 24 inch screen print has a signed and numbered edition of 450 and is limited to one per person/household.

Phish phans, rejoice! Artist Tyler Stout has created this gorgeous screen print triptych to commemorate Phish’s San Francisco stop on their summer tour. Each poster has an edition of 675 and will be on sale at the merch stand during the band’s shows at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium on August 2, 3, and 4, with a different poster on sale each night. Artwork from Hero Complex Gallery’s “Bleeding Metallics” show is now available online for purchase! Check out our preview, and then head on over to the onlines store to grab yourself some awesome metallic art.

Want to win two free prints? The celebrate the opening of the new Spirit House Art Gallery in Tuscon, AZ, artist Ethan Scott is giving away a set of artist proofs of his prints “Arkham Bells” and “Still Your Captain”. Get the details over at 411 Posters!

Spirit House also has some incredible art for sale at their online shop, including coveted prints from Faile, Jeremy Geddes, Shepard Fairey, Kevin Tong, and more.

Tiny Showcase is currently featuring two Ian Dingman pieces for sale, “Every Weekend I’m Out Here And They’re In There” and “Late Assignments”. The prints measure 10 x 8 inches for framing, with an image area of approximate 9 x 7 inches. The art is printed on 290gsm natural white print making paper, and each comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The two prints are available for $40 as a set, or $25 each ($140 each framed). A portion of the sales will go directly to the First Book, Dingman’s charity of choice. There are only a few of each edition remaining, so be sure to snap them up while you still can!

GALLERY SHOWS, EXHIBITIONS, AND EVENTS

June 29th – October 13th: Daniel Clowes at Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Chicago, IL

Daniel Clowes, creator of acclaimed comics such as Ghost World, David Boring, Art School Confidential, and Eightball, is currently featured at MCA Chicago’s exhibit, “Modern Cartoonist: The Art of Daniel Clowes”. The exhibit contains original black ink and Zipatone drawings, in addition to gouache paintings of the covers of Ghost World and other publications, are on display with originals of all of Clowes’s publications to date. July 27th – August 14th: Theo Ellsworth at GR2, Los Angeles, CA

Theo Ellsworth’s “Laughing Ghost Nation” show opens on July 27th and runs through mid-August. More information is located over at the Giant Robot website.

August 1st – 24th: Scott Scheildy at SpokeArt, San Francisco, CA

Florida artist Scott Scheildy has thirteen acrylic on masonite paintings up on display at SpokeArt. Featuring figures of traditional masculinity decked out in pink, “The Pinks” explores “the cultural and social implications of color and how the predefined notions that accompany these perceptions can alter one’s identity and subsequent world view”.

August 2nd – August 24th: “Bleeding Metallics” at Hero Complex Gallery, Los Angeles, CA

Like good art and shiny stuff? Check out “Bleeding Metallics” at Hero Complex Gallery! The show features art created with “metallic inks, paints, papers, and metal itself”!

August 9th – August 24th: Cuyler Smith at Bottleneck Gallery, Brooklyn, NY

Cuyler Smith’s series of cropped pop-culture icons will be on display at Brooklyn’s Bottleneck Gallery, with an opening reception on August 9th at 7:00 PM and online sales beginning on August 10th, around 12:00 PM (noon) EST. August 10th, 2013: Elysium Artist Panel & Book Signing at Gallery Nucleus, Alhambra, CA

Excited for Elysium? You’re in luck, because Gallery Nucleus is celebrating the release of Elysium: The Art of the Film with an artist panel and book signing! Admission is only $5 for a Q&A session and access to rare behind-the-scenes artwork by artists from the production design, storyboards, and visual development team. August 2013: Dabs Myla at White Walls Gallery, San Francisco, CA

Known for their cheekily raunchy work, husband-and-wife duo Dabs Myla will be featured in an “intimate installation” at the White Walls gallery. The opening reception is scheduled for August 17th at 7 PM, and you can click on over to the gallery website for more details.

August 23rd – “Shot from the Hip” at Galerie F, Chicago, IL

Later this month, Galerie F will be presenting an exhibition of the world’s best street art photography. RSVP at the Facebook event page.

September 10th – October 5th: Prisma Collective at Distinction Gallery, Escondido, CA
