In a statement Activision has announced that it has sold over  $1 Billion in retail units of its newest release, Call of Duty: Ghosts. After months of heavy advertising, the game finally launched on  November 5, 2013 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.  With this many retail units being sold within the first two weeks, many are claiming that Call of Duty continues to hold the title of being the biggest first person shooter franchises in the world.

And in the last 12 months, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, including its digital content, generated more revenues than any other console game ever has in a single year. Although it is too early to assess sell-through for Call of Duty: Ghosts, it’s launching at a time when the franchise has never been more popular.”

Currently the game holds of a Metacrtic score of 74, with many critics siting that besides its high sales number, the franchise continues to be a victim of its own success. Regardless, Call of Duty fans don’t seem to mind as many retailers held events and midnight release parties to celebrate the newest edition to the franchise.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be released for Xbox One and Playstation 4 on November 22nd and 15th, respectively.
