The Pull List, 8.17.16

Here at Kaboooooom we love our comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop, it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should be checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s Kabooooom’s Pull List!

Sarah Moran

Pull List: Aquaman #5, Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #1, Green Arrow #5, Harley Quinn #2
This Week’s Must Read: The Wicked + The Divine #22

wicdiv 22 cvrThe Wicked + The Divine – a series about a pantheon of gods resurrected as pop stars but cursed to only live for two years – really enjoys putting its readers through the emotional ringer. Issue #22 marks the conclusion of the its most recent arc, “Rising Action”, and with a solicit that insists that a “little extreme violence never hurt anyone,” I’m genuinely worried some of our favorites aren’t making it out without their heads exploding. Especially poor Minerva, shown in dire straits on the cover.

Matt Morrison

Pull List: All-New Wolverine #11, Aquaman #5, Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #1, Descender #14, Doctor Who: Supremacy Of The Cybermen #2, Green Arrow #5, Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Five #35 (Digital Edition)
This Week’s Must Read: Supergirl Rebirth #1 [Review]

supergirl rebirth cvrI haven’t read Supergirl in some time and the solicitation for this one isn’t offering me much hope. (Kryptonian werewolves? Really?) Nevertheless, I’m curious how this book will try and adapt itself to fit the reality of the Supergirl TV series (beyond putting Supergirl to work with the DEO) in an effort to convert viewers into readers.

Alex Chautin

This Week’s Must Read: The Backstagers #1

backstagers 1 cvrFor those of you who have been behind the scenes or even those who have only dreamt about it, BOOM! Studios presents a new series through their Boom!Box label – Backstagers. Set at an all boys school, Backstagers follows transfer student, Jory as he explores the magic of the world behind curtain.
