It’s Halloween Night in St. Canard – a night where masked figures governed by their own greedy impulses prowl the streets in search of whatever goodies they can grab. So it’s like most nights in St. Canard, except the masked figures are a bit shorter and it’s the one night of the year Drake Mallard (a.k.a. Darkwing Duck) hungers for candy more than he hungers for justice!

Unfortunately, there will be no time for Darkwing Duck to hunt for candy this year. A nefarious evil has taken root in the heart of the city and the children of St. Canard have more reason than ever to fear the vegetables on their plates.

The vegetables are alive!

Well, technically they were already alive. Plants are living creatures after all. But now they’re dead, walking and turning the people of St. Canard into mindless zombies!

What dastardly devil could be responsible for ruining Halloween?

Can Darkwing Duck stop them?

And why am I asking you?

I’m reluctant to say too much about this issue, lest you become more spoiled than an undead potato. Suffice it to say this issue is amusing both as a continuation of the Darkwing Duck cartoon series and as a satire of the zombie apocalypse genre. The artwork perfectly captures the aesthetic of the show. Children will enjoy the slapstick humor and adults will enjoy the in-jokes. Possibly the other way around.

No previous experience with Darkwing Duck – the show or the comic – is needed to enjoy this issue.  However, should you want to experience the saga as it began, the collection of the first four issues of the current volume just went on sale recently. Either way, this is one of the best all-ages books on the stands today and it’s a must-read for anyone who enjoys a good, fun and funny read.
