Here at Kaboooooom we love our comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop, it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should be checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s The Pull List!
Pull List: Aquaman #16, Green Arrow #16, Harley Quinn #13, The Walking Dead #163, Star Wars #28
This Week’s Must Read: Hawkeye #3
As I’ve expressed previously, it was an earlier Hawkeye run (starring Clint Barton) and Young Avengers which turned me on to Kate Bishop. She’s a sassy, no-nonsense sort of gal who kicks butt and has impeccable aim. This Hawkeye series from Kelly Thompson, Leonardo Romero, and Jordie Bellaire is a perfect vehicle for Kate, sending her to Venice Beach where she starts her own P.I. business and her first case sends her chasing down a gross internet troll turned stalker who then turns out to be a brainwashed victim of some weird cult and well… it just continues to escalate from there and now Kate is literally running for her life! Needless to say, I want to know where this story goes next.
Pull List: Aquaman #16, Green Arrow #16, Injustice: Ground Zero #18 (Digital Edition)
This Week’s Must Read: Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor: Year Two #14
While I’ve enjoyed most of the Doctor Who comics since Titan Comics took over the license from IDW, it has been the Twelfth Doctor comic that has impressed me the most overall of late. Robbie Morrison’s last story arc – focused on a 16th century red-haired swordswoman assisting The Doctor in averting an alien invasion of Musketeer-era France – proved to be a better Red Sonja comic than the current Red Sonja comic. Rachel Stott’s artwork was of similar high quality, far above the usual standard for licensed comics. I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with this, the final story arc of Year Two, which is reportedly a film noir detective story involving Aztec mythology.
Pull List: Aquaman #16, Batman #16 [Review], Green Arrow #16, Green Lanterns #16, Nightwing #14, Superman #16, All-New X-Men #1.MU, All-New X-Men #18, Avengers #4, Bullseye #1, Champions #5 [Review], Hawkeye #3, Monsters Unleashed #2, Moon Knight #11, Nova #3, Old Man Logan #17, Spider-Man 2099 #20, Star Wars #28, Unstoppable Wasp #2
This Week’s Must Read: Star Wars: Darth Maul #1 [Review]
Darth Maul #1 is the story of how the mysterious Sith character came to be where he was during Episode I: The Phantom Menace. This story will predate anything we’ve seen about Maul. His mythos has been expanded on post-Episode I (in comics but also on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels) but never before have we gotten to read the tales of his life before encountering Jedi. Cullen Bunn and Luke Ross look to make their mark on one of the franchises most celebrated villains who never quite lived up to the hype in his only movie appearance.
