What had started as a standard day of rescuing people marooned in space for The Doctor and his companions became infinitely more complicated as it was discovered the ship’s cargo included several hundred Hosts – the robotic angels that are prone to malfunction and mischief. Throw in a container full of refugees, a couple of Weeping Angels and a platoon of Judoon under the command of Detective Jingatheen (who was, once upon a time and in another lifetime, one of The Ninth Doctor’s greatest enemies) and things have been interesting!

The final chapter of A Confusion Of Angels is probably the strongest of the four-part story. Sadly, that only makes it decent – not great. Richard Dinnick’s story suffers from pacing problems, with The Doctor just now explaining who Blon Fel-Fotch Passameer-Day Slitheen was in the final chapter. The vexing thing is that most readers are probably familiar with the character and those who needed the explanation should have gotten it sooner in the story.

The artwork by Pasquale Qualano is similarly problematic. While Qualano’s character designs and pencils are good, the character’s expressions frequently don’t match the emotion indicated by their dialogue. The inks are erratic, with several pages looking as if the inks were incomplete and only the character outlines were finished! Doctor Who enthusiasts may like it but this story is unlikely to make any new fans.
