This Week’s Must Read: Sex Criminals Volume One: One Weird Trick
Every week we recommend that one book we can’t imagine skipping, and while I’ve got a fairly full list of floppies I’m grabbing this week, my number one pick up is Sex Criminals Volume One. We’ve already reviewed issues one and five when they originally released, but if you haven’t had the chance to experience the whole first arc, now’s your chance!
Sex Criminals is just good, dirty fun. The premise – a woman who can stop time when she orgasms – is totally bonkers but it’s allowed Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky to be very frank and honest about sex and sexual awakenings. Plus, it’s super funny, endearing, and surely features more dildos than any other comic on the market!

This Week’s Must Read: Superior Spider-Man #31
After all the criticism, Dan Slott brings the death of Otto Octavius, the rise of the Superior Spider-Man, and the mystery of the Goblin King to a conclusion. After last issue’s big reveal, a lot of questions need answered, and I’m looking forward to reading as Slott continues to redefine the Spider-Man.

This Week’s Must Read: Knights of the Dinner Table #207
Knights of the Dinner Table is the longest running gaming humor comic in the world yet it is hardly typical of the genre. Most gamer comics are built around in-jokes and depend on some basic familiarity with the particular games being parodied. KODT started out in this manner but developed its own complex mythology as the years passed. Today, most of the humor comes from the relationships between the characters rather than obscure in-jokes about the merits of THACO vs. D20. This allows KODT to be accessible to non-gamers and comic fans who don’t play pen-and-paper RPGs will find a lot to like about this series.

This Week’s Must Read: Adventures of Superman Volume One
Here’s the thing: I love Superman. I love Superman a whole lot. But I avoid the New 52 like a plague, and from what little I do pick up, I feel like I’m not missing much. Seriously, as far as I’m concerned the only thing good thing to come out of it all is Clark Kent quitting The Daily Planet for the blogosphere, and only then because that gave the world @CK1Blogs.
So for me, Adventures of Superman is everything I could want. It’s an anthology of stories about Clark from a bunch of talented artists and writers, completely unimpacted by whatever’s going on in the new universe. The stories are sweet, sometimes sad, but they’re always good, and they bring back into my life the Man of Tomorrow I was sorely missing. It’s down here for the same reason Sex Criminals’ trade is also on the list. For those of us who fell behind on this great title or missed out on the first couple of issues, the trades have it all collected into one place. So if you love and miss Superman, or you’re a newbie looking to get into the guy, please consider this trade paperback. And if you’re hesitant about giving DC Comics money after all the crap they’ve pulled, remember that your dollar is your vote and a purchase is a vote for this Superman.
