The Kabooooom! Pull List, 6.11.14

Here at Kaboooooom we live and breathe comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s Kabooooom’s Pull List!

coffin-hill-8

Marcus Hammond, Writer
Pull List:
Shutter #3, Nightcrawler #3, Futures End #6
This Week’s Must Read: Coffin Hill #8

There really isn’t anything else out there like Coffin Hill. The series is built on a complex, original story and Inaki Miranda’s art is spectacular. In this issue, the second story arc begins as Eve Coffin faces her past in Boston. The first story arc was well written, so I’m looking forward to seeing where Caitlin Kittredge is going to take Eve now.

batgirl-32

Matt Morrison, Writer
Pull List: All-New Invaders #6, Batman Eternal #10, Justice League United #2
This Week’s Must Read: Batgirl #32

Many fans of Birds of Prey refused to give this title a shot due to the controversy over Barbara Gordon’s mobility being restored and the idea that Barbara becoming Batgirl once again was a step-backward for the character. This is unfortunate, because Gail Simone writes Barbara Gordon as the same smart, capable woman whether she’s in a costume or at a computer and this series has been one of DC Comics’ most interesting titles (when its plots weren’t being sidelined by the latest Bat-Family crossover). Thankfully, the last few issues have gotten things back on track and this issue – pitting Barbara against an enemy who can match her technical skills – promises to be a great one!

original-sins-1

Anne Mortensen-Agnew, Writer
Pull List: Bee and PuppyCat #2, The Empty Man #1, Lumberjanes #3, Blood Queen #1
This Week’s Must Read: Original Sins #1

I’m not a crossover event person. Most of the time the stories just don’t click with me and any EARTH-SHATTERING CHANGES are undone in a couple of years anyway. Original Sin is no exception to that, so checking out the five-parter, Original Sins, over on Previews was a little out of character for me. But that preview is a sell. It’s a couple of micro-stories from different creators, at least one of which – starring the Young Avengers – will continue on through the five issues. The first story, “Terminus” is darkly interesting, while Young Avengers’ “Hidden in Plain Sight” is hilarious. Whatever’s going on in Original Sin proper aside, this book is something worth checking out.
