This Week’s Must Read: Mad Max Fury Road: Furiosa #1

It’s been weeks since I saw Mad Max: Fury Road, but the film still lingers in my mind. Constantly I find myself thinking back on it, and specifically I find myself recalling how much I adored Charlize Theron’s Furiosa. There have already been hundreds of think pieces written discussing what a refreshing character Furiosa is, so I won’t bother repeating that praise here, but I’m absolutely stoked to learn more about her – and from director George Miller himself, no less!

This Week’s Must Read: Harley Quinn & Power Girl #1

Lots of great books coming out this week. The long awaited new Black Canary series! Brian Hitch’s Justice League! New Secret Six and Ninth Doctor! And a shiny and chrome Fury Road comic written by George Miller himself! But if I have to pick a favorite for this week (and I do) I have to go with Harley Quinn & Power Girl #1 because it signals the return of the greatest character in comics history – VARTOX THE MIGHTY! Yes, no longer trapped in the New 52 news feature as a common sports anchor, Vartox shall once again stride across the comics page in the full glory in which he was meant to exist!

This Week’s Must Read: Black Canary #1

It’s tough for me to pick between Black Canary and Runaways. Brian K. Vaughn’s run on Runaways is one of my all-time favorite runs. The creative team behind this new Black Canary series, however, makes me feel like the series could be something great. Annie Wu’s work on various variant covers (All-New Hawkeye #3, Ms. Marvel #3) and her interior work on several of Fraction’s Hawkeye issues got me hooked. I think her perspective will be perfect for the book.

This Week’s Must Read: Black Canary #1

There are several great comic books coming out this week! It was difficult for me to pick between Dr. Fate and Black Canary for this weeks must read. Dr. Fate has a great writer behind its pages in Paul Levitz who has a very extensive resume of superhero comics behind him. But Black Canary looks to have a great mix of music and action, plus a strong writer behind it. So my pick for this week goes to Black Canary #1!
