The Pull List, 7.22.15

Here at Kaboooooom we live and breathe comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should be checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s Kabooooom’s Pull List!

Boom! Studios has cornered the market on stories that are both kick-ass and cute: their massive line of Adventure Time series, Bravest Warriors, Bee and Puppycat, Lumberjanes – the list goes on! Their next addition comes from Kate Leth and Matt Cummings and promises to be everything you love about superheroes, magical girls, goldfish and more – it’s Power Up! In it, a team of the most unlikely heroes are imbued with magical powers: Amie, a disaffected twenty-something with a lot of attitude; Kevin, a washed-up athlete way past his prime; Sandy, a mother of two teenagers; Silas, a goldfish. Power Up! is billed as Sailor Moon meets Scott Pilgrim, and really, that’s all I need to hear to have me excited to check it out.

Matt Morrison

Pull List: Arrow: Season 2.5 #24 (Digital Editon), Harley Quinn and Power Girl #2, Injustice: Gods Among Us – Year Four #12 (Digital Edition), John Carter: Warlord of Mars #9, Knights Of The Dinner Table #222, Power Up! #1, Rick And Morty #4, Swords of Sorrow: Red Sonja & Jungle Girl #1
This Week’s Must Read: Sons Of The Devil #3

sons of the devil 3 cvr power up!I’m not one for horror comics most of the time – there’s very little in the way of original imagery or stories – but I gave this series a shot purely because it was being written by Brian Buccellato, whose work on Injustice and The Flash I’ve enjoyed immensely. And I’ve enjoyed this book immensely since the first issue for both Buccellato’s scripts and Toni Infante’s amazing artwork. If you’re a fan of unique horror stories, I think you’ll enjoy it too.

Marcus Hammond

Pull List: Grayson #10, Harley Quinn and Power Girl #2, Wonder Woman #42, Uncanny X-Men #35
This Week’s Must Read: Weirdworld #2

weirdworld 2 cvr power up!I’m getting pretty tired of the Secret Wars/Battleworld mini-series carousel. The combination of Jason Aaron and Mike Del Mundo, however, helps me overlook my lack of interest in Battleworld. Del Mundo’s art is perfect for a sci-fi story and Aaron has proven time and again he can take just about any story and make it shine. Weirdworld may get lost in the Secret Wars shuffle, but its creative team should be enough to make it stand above the rest.

Brandon Griffin

Pull List: Old Man Logan #3, Magneto #20, Uncanny X-Men #35, Future Imperfect #3, Marvel Zombies #2, Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde #1
This Week’s Must Read: The Punisher #20

the punisher 20 cvr power up!I am extremely excited to see where Old Man Logan goes as the first two issues were wonderful. The couple “Last Days of…” books this week should be action packed  and with the recent events surrounding Peter Quill before Secret Wars began, I’m looking forward to seeing what he and Kitty are up to as well. But nothing should be more exciting than The Punisher #20 as Castle’s last acts before the world ends will surely be explosive and super violent. Marvel has been keeping fans busy with plenty of Battleworld chaos, I kinda don’t want it to end. Praise be to Lord Doom.
