The Pull List, 9.23.15

Here at Kaboooooom we love our comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop, it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should be checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s Kabooooom’s Pull List!

Matt Morrison

Pull List: Batgirl #44, Doctor Who: The Four Doctors #5, Injustice: Gods Among Us – Year Four #21 (Digital), John Carter: Warlord of Mars #11, The Tithe #5
This Week’s Must Read: Red Sonja #18

red sonja 18 cvrHow could I not select this – this final issue of Gail Simone and Walter Geovani’s run on Red Sonja – as my Pick Of the Week? What these two creators have accomplished with this series is phenomenal. Between Simone’s redefinition of the character and Geovani’s beautiful sword-and-sorcery artwork that depicted Sonja as a warrior first and a beautiful woman second, I am sad to see their partnership on this series come to an end. Still, we can be certain this ending will be one to remember.

Marcus Hammond

Pull List: Batgirl #44, Harley Quinn and Power Girl #4, Weirdworld #4, Deadpool vs. Thanos #2
This Week’s Must Read: Wolf #3

wold 3 cvrIt’s hard to describe Ales Kot’s work. Grant Morrison-esqe may be a fitting descriptor. In Wolf, Kot is building a crime noir, paranormal mind-trip that may bring about the apocalypse. He expertly ties magic, monsters, and mythology together in a way that makes the reader feel engaged with the characters, yet completely off-balanced as well. There’s no telling where the series may end up, but through the first two issues, Kot is proving he can be successful bringing his crazy ideas to life.
