The Pull List, 10.7.15

Here at Kaboooooom we love our comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop, it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should be checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s Kabooooom’s Pull List!

Sarah Moran

Pull List: 8house Yorris #4, Paper Girls #1, Saints #1, Shattered Empire #2, Star Wars #10,
This Week’s Must Read: Jughead #1

jughead 1 cvrEarlier this year I converted to the Archie fandom after absolutely adoring Archie #1 – the rebooted, modernized take from Mark Waid and Fiona Staples. This week sees Archie’s best pal, Jughead get the same treatment from Chip Zdarsky and Erica Henderson and I’m pumped to check it out! Zdarsky’s work I already love as he illustrates one of my all time favorite comics, Sex Criminals, so I’m very interested to see what he’s bringing to Jughead #1. Henderson has recently been working on Marvel’s incredible Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, which has a wonderful look and I can’t wait to see her take on all the Riverdale kids.

Matt Morrison

Pull List: Injustice: Gods Among Us – Year Four #23 (Digital)
This Week’s Must Read: This Damned Band #3 (of 6)

this damned band 3 cvrPaul Cornell and Tony Parker really surprised me with the first issue of their mini-series about a 70’s rock band who truly did sell out to Satan. It’s a nice satire of the music industry and counterculture in the same vein as This Is Spinal Tap, but there’s a lot of character-based comedy as well. And Parker’s mock band posters and album covers would make damn fine items for the Dark Horse marketing department to mass produce for sale. Just putting that out there.

Alex Chautin

Pull List: Lumberjanes Vol. 2 TPB, Bob’s Burgers #4, Atomic Robo and the Ring of Fire #2 (of 4)
This Week’s Must Read: Amazing World of Gumball 2015 Grab Bag #1

amazing world of gumball grab bag special 1 cvrThe Amazing World of Gumball 2015 Grab Bag #1 is sure to be a worthwhile buy, a must-read, and then a read-again. Both the title and the Cartoon Network series are consistently entertaining for a wide scope audience, something which this issue is sure to do in spades. The Amazing World of Gumball 2015 Grab Bag #1 follows the incredibly well developed and endearing mixed-media characters as they explore the haunted edges of Elmore and the oddly mundane lives of some of the more intimidating characters, like Tina Rex. This special highlights the characters fans of the series have come to adore in a variety of mini-adventures, each constructed by the best Boom! Studios has to offer. The publisher’s history of offering readers variety and talent in all of their other titles with strong satisfaction makes the 2015 Grab Bag #1 difficult to pass up. So if you find yourself wanting more Gumball, Darwin, Penny, Anais, and more, be sure to pick up the Amazing World of Gumball 2015 Grab Bag #1 before someone gets to it first!
