The Pull List, 10.14.15

Here at Kaboooooom we love our comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop, it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should be checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s Kabooooom’s Pull List!

Sarah Moran

Pull List: Batman #45, Harley Quinn #21, Sex Criminals #13, The Walking Dead #147, The Wicked + The Divine #15, A-Force #5, Shattered Empire #3 (of 4)
This Week’s Must Read: Chewbacca #1 (of 5)

chewbacca 1 cvrThe Star Wars license has been a huge boon for Marvel Comics, putting them at the top of the best-sellers lists month after month. That trend is sure to continue as the days tick towards the release of The Force Awakens, and this week Marvel starts another sure to please mini-series starring everyone’s favorite walking carpet – Chewbacca. Written by Gerry Duggan with artwork from Phil Noto, Chewbacca pairs the Wookiee with a new partner, a young and feisty girl on the run and in need of help. Lucky for her, Chewie has just crash-landed nearby and is willing to lend a helping hand… er, paw. I have high hopes for this title, as long as they keep with the tradition of Chewbacca being only understood by those with him. I don’t know how I’d feel just reading text in Chewie’s speech bubbles.

Matt Morrison

Pull List: Constantine: The Hellblazer #5, Injustice: Gods Among Us – Year Four #24 (Digital), Red Sonja/Conan #3
This Week’s Must Read: Swords of Sorrow #6 (of 6)

swords of sorrow 6 cvrWhile not all of its tie-in mini-series were worth reading, the vast majority of the books to come out of Swords of Sorrow were rollicking good fun. And if nothing else the success of this series has led to the industry’s most successful female writers taking a hand at writing the greatest pulp heroines of all time in upcoming, new solo series for Red Sonja, Dejah Thoris and Vampirella. Historical importance aside, this series has been a fun read with great artwork and I’m sad to see this final chapter arrive.

Alex Chautin

Pull List: Lumberjanes: Beyond Bay Leaf #1, Red Hood/Arsenal #5, Jem and the Holograms #8, Star Trek/Green Lantern #4 (of 6), Chewbacca #1 (of 5), Invader Zim #4,
This Week’s Must Read: Tyson Hesse’s Diesel #2 (of 4)

tyson hesse's diesel 2 cvrColorful, with a vibrant personality and concept, Tyson Hesse’s Diesel made a substantial splash with its first issue. The second issue aims to be no different in that regard. After leaving off with the title character’s activation of a mysterious flying engine on the floating city of “Peacetowne”, the crew and residents are sure to be along for an exciting adventure in the remaining three issues of the four-issue Boom! Studios publication. Part of the publisher’s subsection, Boom! Box, Diesel #2 is a must-read entry in what could be one of the most fun, spunky, and well developed books being released as 2015 draws to a close. For these reasons, as well as Boom! Studio’s amazingly beautiful incentive covers, Tyson Hesse’s Diesel #2 is a must-read comic in this week’s pull.
