Here at Kaboooooom we love our comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop, it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should be checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s Kabooooom’s Pull List!
Pull List: Black Canary #11, Harley Quinn #27, Sex Criminals #15 [Review], Angela: Queen of Hel #7, Star Wars #18, Rick and Morty #13
This Week’s Must Read: Batman #51 [Review]
After the monumental Batman #50, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo are winding down their extraordinary run with the Caped Crusader. Having faced “the Court of Owls to Mr. Bloom to the Joker,” as Batman #51‘s solicit reads, the Dark Knight is having a quiet night in Gotham City. But as any Bat-fan knows, it’s those quiet, introspective nights when Bruce is left alone with his thoughts that can turn in some of the best stories. And being that it’s the final Bat-book for this amazing creative team before DC’s Universe reboots (again), there is no way I’m missing out.
Pull List: All New Wolverine #7, Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Five #19 (Digital), Rick and Morty #13, Secret Six #13, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #7
This Week’s Must Read: Disney’s Darkwing Duck #1 [Review]
The Boom! Studios’ Darkwing Duck series was one of the best comics I’ve read in the last decade. A love letter to the original cartoon, it was also that rarest of all beasts – an all-ages comic that truly was all-ages! Kids could read the book and enjoy the exciting adventures of The Terror That Flaps In The Night as parents enjoyed all the in-jokes and nods to the classic series. With the original writer and artist on-board for a new series from JoeBooks’s Disney line, this new volume should continue the high level of quality we’ve appreciated in the past and will hopefully continue to enjoy for a long time to come.
Pull List: Batman #51, Justice League #49, Harley Quinn #27, Saga #36, Amazing Spider-Man #11 [Review]
This Week’s Must Read: The Ultimates #6
I’ve really been enjoying Al Ewing’s take on The Ultimates. While there may be bigger issues and stories dropping this week, Ewing’s super smart and resourceful team fills the void left by the Fantastic Four’s absence. The current story arc revolves around curing Galactus’ hunger and the ramifications of the endeavor’s success. Just a small task. Superhero genius space drama plus America Chavez punching holes in space, what more could you want?
Pull List: Bill and Ted Go To Hell #3 (of 4), Batgirl #51, We Are Robin #11, Ghostbusters International #4, Sex Criminals #15, Rick and Morty #13
This Week’s Must Read: Over The Garden Wall #1
Described by some as a fun-loving musical cartoon for kids, and an existential nightmare for adults, Over the Garden Wall is getting a well deserved and desired ongoing series. Fans of the series were teased by a one-shot and a short mini-series of Wirt and Greg’s wanderings, but the thirst for more of the instant success will now be quenched with this monthly title, which will feature two new mini-stories per issue. Though Greg and Wirt have vanquished the Beast, the unknown is not through with them yet. Ready yourselves for new challenges in the woods. These tales and more are waiting for you, just over the garden wall.
