This Week’s Must Read: The Flash #10

The 1990s Starman comic is one of my favorite series of all time and part of the reason for that is how the series crafted an interesting new personality and backstory for the The Shade. James Robinson took a Jay Garrick Flash enemy who had little in the way of definition and transformed him into an immortal British gentleman with a taste for the finer things and a unique code of honor. The Shade had a mini-series several years ago seemingly confirming that his updated origin was canon in The New 52, but the blurb for this issue and the cover suggest that things may have changed. I will be waiting with baited breath to see how much of Robinson’s shadowy dandy remains in the Rebirth reality.

This Week’s Must Read: All-Star Batman #4

Scott Snyder cemented himself as one of the best Batman writers of this or any era with he and Greg Capullo’s 51 issue New 52 run. With the first 3 issues of All-Star Batman, Snyder continues to further cement himself as one of the all-time greats. Absolutely living up to the All-Star name, if you haven’t been reading this series, do yourself a favor and read all of it. Snyder tackles characters untouched in his New 52 run while also digging through the Bat’s rogue’s gallery and utilizing amazing characters long forgotten. This series will no doubt be an essential Batman classic when it’s finished, it’s a must for any caliber of Batman fan.
