This Week’s Must Read: Wonder Woman #25

wonder woman 25 cvrWriter Greg Rucka weaves together the threads of “The Lies,” “Year One,” “The Truth,” and “Godwatch”—every story in WONDER WOMAN since the start of the DC Universe Rebirth era—in this extra-sized anniversary issue!

This week, Greg Rucka’s run on Wonder Woman comes to a close. This series has been one of Rebirth’s strongest, using DC’s double shipping to its fullest, delivering stories from both Diana’s earliest days as Wonder Woman to her more recent adventures. Rucka has composed for Diana a concise origin and has brilliantly displayed her aptitude for love and empathy. Defeating her enemies means more than besting them on the battlefield, it also means treating them with compassion —  and that is so intrinsically Wonder Woman. As if that wasn’t enough, the artwork from Liam Sharp, Nicola Scott, and now most recently Bilquis Evely, has made Wonder Woman an amazing and beautifully detailed book. From the Amazons to Cheetah to Diana herself, Wonder Woman hasn’t looked this good in a long time.

If you’ve missed out on this phenomenal Wonder Woman Rebirth run, its earlier issues have already been collected in trades and hardbacks with the rest to follow soon. And for those of us who’ve been following along, this is an issue not to miss.

This Week’s Must Read: Batgirl #12

Much as I enjoyed Chris Wildgoose’s work on the previous “Son Of Penguin” arc, I’m overjoyed to see Eleonora Carlini taking over the art duties as of this issue. I’ve had my eye on Carlini ever since I first saw her work in Doctor Who and her recent work on Green Arrow was also outstanding. Throw in a script by Hope Larson and this is a definite must-read title.
