Having learned that Superman had imprisoned what remained of The Teen Titans in the Phantom Zone, Batman arranged to meet with The Justice League Task Force to break into The Fortress of Solitude, recover a projector and break them out of that intangible purgatory.

It was meant to be a simple mission, relatively speaking. It quickly went south, however, as an uninvited guest emerged from The Phantom Zone along with the Teen Titans – General Zod, the Kryptonian war criminal who sought to destroy Earth in order to build a new Krypton!

The good news is that Batman still had every contingency he needed for a battle with a rogue Kryptonian ready to go at a moment’s notice. He even had a weapon he could never use due to his friendship with Superman that he had no qualms about using on Zod – a combination of Kryptonite and Scarecrow’s fear toxin that leaves Zod kneeling before Batman, hallucinating a righteous Superman lecturing him on the error of his ways.

The bad news is that someone else has observed the battle between Batman and Zod. And they do not trust Batman to finish the job properly…

Once again I find myself hamstrung by my desire as a fan to gush about the brilliance of the creative team of Injustice 2 and my responsibility as a critic not to spoil the story. Suffice it to say this is one issue everyone will want to read and will probably be hearing about whether I am the one to report on this issue’s shocking events or not.

Injustice 2 #39 is heavier on the action than usual but Tom Taylor still finds time in his script for those wonderful little character moments that make this series so magical. Couple this with some energetic art from Bruno Redondo, Juan Albarran and Rex Lokus and you have one fantastic book!
