In a world full of magic, a divine spirit fills all living things. But sometimes, these spirits are corrupted in death, becoming a blight upon the world of the living. Thankfully, there are Soul Senders – powerful mages who are trained in the rites that can guide these spirits to the afterlife.

Alpi is one such Soul Sender. She is powerful for her age, but judged for her youth. Despite this, she is determined to prove herself. With her familiar Perenai at her side, Alpi will journey wherever she might be needed to stave off the curses of evil spirits.

The Magical Girl genre is one of the most popular in all of Manga and Alpi – The Soul Sender seems poised to become a mainstay of that Shojo school. Alpi is a heroine cast from the same mold as Cardcaptor Sakura, cheerful and determined despite the serious nature of her work. This first volume does a fine job of not only introducing her character, but also establishing the rules of how spirits work in this reality.

The artwork of Rona is as detailed as the setting and story. There is much about Alpi’s adventures that will seem familiar to Magical Girl fans, from the general look to the character types. There is more unique than not, however, and genre enthusiasts would do well to check this out, as would anyone looking for a good All Ages Manga for their young readers.
