ONE ZERO ZERO ONE SAVES THE WORLD #1 [Advance Review]

ONE ZERO ZERO ONE SAVES THE WORLD #1 / Created and Scripted by JEREMY ROBINSON / Art and Letters by TIAGO PALMA / Colors by MANUEL J. RODRIGUEZ / Published by VAULT COMICS

Once, One Zero Zero One was cared for. His father taught him many things, and trained him to survive anything. Yet Father still forbid One Zero Zero One going out into the world beyond. Then Father sealed One Zero Zero One away from the world.

It is now 2451 and One Zero Zero One has awakened into a new world. A savage place where their innate ability to survive is pushed to the limit. Strange creatures roam the ruins of what was Boston and they hunger. Thus begins One Zero Zero One’s quest for answers…

Reading through One Zero Zero One Saves The World #1, I couldn’t help but be reminded of Vault Comics’ Excommunicated. Not only because the same creative team is behind both comics, but because my reaction was identical. This first issue is a great story hook, but I think it will read better as a single graphic novel than as a monthly series.

Writer Jeremy Robinson does not waste time in establishing the series’ setting or the setup. One Zero Zero One is something of a blank slate, but that is by design. They are an innocent adrift, struggling to understand everything. Comparisons to the Creature from Frankenstein are unavoidable and appropriate, ignoring their rather unique power set, which marks them as a heroic version of Superman’s Doomsday.

Tiago Palma offers a masterful performance bringing this twisted world to life. The creatures that One Zero Zero One confronts look truly alien and the fight sequences against them flow smoothly and freely. The colors by Manuel J. Rodriguez are equally impressive, particularly the lighting effects utilized during a literal fire fight.

One Zero Zero One Saves The World may read better in a collected edition than as a monthly comic. Despite this, the first issue offers a solid setup and amazing art. This is classic science fiction and survival fiction done right.

One Zero Zero One Saves The World #1 arrives in comic shops on November 4, 2026.
