Check Out Batgirl’s New Duds! New Creative Team Taking Over in October

Holy chíc new crime fighting duds, Batgirl!

With DC Comics‘ reboot of their superhero universe, the New 52, many characters were returned to their more traditional roles and some were deleted from existence all together. For instance, Dick Grayson – who had since graduated to being his own Batman – was again Nightwing, and Donna Troy and Wally West – Wonder Woman and The Flash 2.0s, respectively – no longer existed.

Out of all the New 52s alterations the choice to return Barbara Gordan to her Batgirl persona after having been previously paralyzed by The Joker and transforming herself in to the ultra-hacker and wheelchair bound, Oracle, was by far the most controversial. However, under the keen eye of fan favorite writer and super Babs fan, Gail Simone, the New 52’s Batgirl title has seen much success and won over those fearful that having Barbara back in the cowl was a regression for the character.

Yet, it’s time for Simone to move on and tackle other projects (one of which will be announced very soon!) and taking over Batgirl in October is the new creative team of writers Cameron Stewart and Brenden Fletcher (Batman Inc., Wednesday Comics) along with newcomer, artist Babs Tarr. Yes, Babs will be drawing Babs.

In an exclusive interview with MTV News, Stewart, Fletcher and Tarr chat about the new series as well as Batgirl’s new crime fighting costume, which was designed by Stewart and Tarr. It’s a fresh, fun, and younger look for the redhead, and is a costume that looks as if any teen hero could throw together. Meaning, this is going to be one popular cosplay look. Details like the snap on cape are fantastic, and with its yellow and purple hues this isn’t a costume made for skulking in the shadows, as Stewart even teases that Barbara will learn to “embrace the spotlight.” Plus, those boots! So practical, what a great choice.
