The Kabooooom! Pull List, 10.15.14 Edition

Here at Kaboooooom we live and breathe comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s Kabooooom’s Pull List!

marvel axis 2
Marcus Hammond, Writer
Pull List:
Earth 2: Worlds End #2, Justice League #35, Deadly Class #8, Death of Wolverine #4, Edge of Spider-Verse #5, Spider-Man 2099 #5
This Week’s Must Read: Axis #2

Rick Remender knows how to do dark and Axis is proving to be no different. In the same guise as the dark corners Remender has taken X-Force and Captain America, the entire Marvel Universe is now getting his twisted treatment. The Red Skull has transformed into an unstoppable psychic threat, the X-teams have united, and the Avengers are on the scene. As far as Marvel crossovers go, Axis is one of the few that I am really looking forward to see where it will go.

action philosophers
Matt Morrison, Writer
Pull List: Arrow: Season 2.5 #4 (Digital), Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #1, Earth 2: World’s End #2, Injustice: Gods Among Us – Year 3 #3 (Digital), Red Sonja: The Black Tower #2
This Week’s Must Read: Action Philosophers! HC

One might argue the educational merits of a comic series in which Plato is depicted as a bearded Luchador (Did you know Plato was a professional wrestler before he got into academia?) or in which Nietzche flies around as Der Ubermensch, beating up the people who corrupt his teachings. All I know is that I picked up every issue of this award-winning series when it first came out and I learned more about the lives and beliefs of a wide range of philosophers from reading it than I did during my freshman Intro to Philosophy class. Reprinted in a hardcover edition just in time for the 10th anniversary of the original series’ publication, this volume features a brand new story. So even obsessive action philosophy fans like me have a reason to pick it up.

ms marvel 9
Anne Mortensen-Agnew, Writer
Pull List: Wild’s End #2, Deadpool’s Art of War #1, Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #6, Loki: Agent of Asgard #7
This Week’s Must Read: Ms. Marvel #9

It was such a toss-up between Ms. Marvel and Agent of Asgard that I literally had to flip a coin to decide. Ms. Marvel has consistently been one of the best books of Marvel’s current lineup and just in general. Last month brought Lockjaw, the Inhumans’ royal super-dog, and it was adorable – but not without threat. Kamala has unwittingly brought her enemy the Inventor to her school. It wouldn’t be hard to deduce Ms. Marvel’s identity, and if he can do that, he can find her home. With her powers on the fritz and stakes high, Kamala will learn some secrets about her past and just why Lockjaw is hanging with her.
