This Week’s Must Read: Jem & The Holograms #1

In all honesty, I wasn’t a big fan of Jem & The Holograms as a kid. When it came to classic 80s cartoons, I was more firmly in the Transformers camp. Yet, I’m still pretty excited to check out today’s Jem & The Holograms #1. For one, the updated designs from Sophia Campbell are SO DAMN GOOD. But mostly, I’m happy because writer Kelly Thompson is someone I’ve been following on Twitter since, like, forever. I don’t know her personally (that’s just now how Twitter works), but I’ve followed her work online, loved her first novel, and super excited to see her now writing a comic reboot of such a beloved property. It’s totally rad.

Two Red Sonja books by Gail Simone in the same week. Oh, I have been a good little critic! But if I must choose between Red Sonja #15 and Conan/Red Sonja #3 (and I must), I’ll go with the later simply because it is so good to see the two greatest heroes of sword and sorcery together again!
