Here at Kaboooooom we live and breathe comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should be checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s Kabooooom’s Pull List!

Pull List: Lumberjanes #14, Mad Max: Fury Road – Nux And Immortal Joe #1, Kaptara #2, Wytches #6, Star Wars #5
This Week’s Must Read: A-Force #1
I’m not alone in my choosing of A-Force as my must read for this week, and that sure says a lot about our strong desire for more titles led by not only amazing female characters, but talented women creators like G. Willow Wilson and Marguerite Bennett. A-Force unites the best of Marvel’s superheroines in a series that at first glance isn’t exploitative or derivative. These are characters who can very much carry their own books – and many of them do – and bringing them all together for an event like Marvel’s Secret Wars, Battleword nonsense is a clear vote of confidence from the publisher. And perhaps, a sign that these times are a’changing.

This Week’s Must Read: A-Force #1
I’m honestly not that hyped up for the numerous Battleworld series. I don’t have the time or money to try to follow along with all the story lines. That said, I’ll take a chance on a comic that brings the women of the Marvel Universe together under the pen of Marguerite Bennett. Bennett has proven she can write and co-write strong female characters with Batgirl (see issue #25—Zero Year tie-in) and Angela: Asgard’s Assassin. There’s also a variant cover that shows the newly empowered Kitty Pryde in the background, which makes this issue a big draw. If she’s got a role in A-Force, I’ll definitely be looking forward to this issue (fanboy geek-out complete).

Pull List: Injustice: Gods Among Us – Year Four #3 (Digital Edition), The Flash: Season Zero #19 (Digital Edition)
This Week’s Must Read: Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #10
Owing to some warp in time and space, I somehow acquired a copy of this book in my subscription last week. And I’m glad I did. It’s a great story if you’re a Doctor Who fan. And it’s a great jumping-on point for anyone who hasn’t started reading this series yet. Best of all, it’s one of those comic books – rare in these days – which tells a complete story in a single issue! So if you’ve never given the Doctor Who comic a try – or the TV show a try, for that matter – this is a good book to get!

This Week’s Must Read: A-Force #1
There has been enormous buzz surrounding A-Force #1 before it even hits store shelves. This is mostly because of the controversial New Yorker review by Jill Lepore and the response from author G. Willow Wilson. I am a fan of comics that feature strong women and I am very excited about an Avengers team of solely female superheroes. I have never participated in a large event like Secret Wars, but A-Force may just be the book that gets me to do so.
