The Pull List, 5.13.15

Here at Kaboooooom we live and breathe comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should be checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s Kabooooom’s Pull List!

Pull List: Adventure Time: Marceline Gone Adrift #4, Saga #28, The Walking Dead #141, Angela: Asgard’s Assassin #6, Captain Marvel #15, Darth Vader #5, Ms. Marvel #15, Rick and Morty #2
This Week’s Must Read: Thor #8

This is it, the big reveal of Thor’s identity. This series has been a smash hit for Marvel, outselling all previous Thor titles starring the Odinson and all while never revealing just who the woman wielding Mjolnir actually is! That’s a feat, but not as much as the thrilling tale Jason Aaron’s been weaving as all of Asgard wars for control of Thor’s hammer. I can’t wait to find out Thor’s true identity, though part of the fun has been the mystery surrounding her. Whomever she ends up being, I’m confidant Aaron’s big reveal won’t disappoint, and I’m excited for whatever the implications are for the rest of the Asgard books going forward.

Pull List: Convergence #6, Convergence Suicide Squad #2, East of West #19, Saga #28, Southern Cross #3, Angela: Asgard’s Assassin #6, Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier #8, Silk #4, Secret Wars #2, Thor #8, Coffin Hill #18
This Week’s Must Read: Lady Killer #5

There’s a lot of things I’m looking forward this week in my longer than usually pull list. A lot of interesting story lines are finding light: Thor’s identity, Eve Coffin fighting the dead, Silk going on a date with Johnny Storm, Battleworld… the list goes on. What really stands out, however, is Joelle Jones’s and Jamie S. Rich’s Lady Killer. Josie is trying to find out who ordered a hit on her, and if the first four issues have told us anything about Jones’s and Rich’s plan, there’s probably going to be a few twists and turns in Josie’s path to discovery. I’ll be lucky to make it out of the store before I have this one read.

Pull List: Arrow: Season 2.5 #19 (Digital Edition), Convergence: Green Arrow #2, Howard The Duck #3, Injustice: Gods Among Us – Year Four #2 (Digital Edition), Pathfinder: Origins #4, Rick and Morty #2
This Week’s Must Read: Mythic #1

I love the base concept of this book – magic is real, science is a lie and the mages are trying to keep those facts quiet – as it harkens back to the old World of Darkness RPG and how magic functioned. Throw in the fact that Phil Hester (whose art I’ve always enjoyed) is doing the writing and the artwork is by Hitman artist John McCrea and you have my undivided attention.

Pull List: Giant Days #3, Lady Killer #5, Coffin Hill #18, D4VE #4
This Week’s Must Read: Lantern City #1

I love Victorian style, but when it’s mixed with gears and gadgets it’s especially fun – that’s the world of steampunk. In recent years we have been treated to a bevy of great steampunk from Gail Carriger’s books to Lady Mechanika. Lantern City enters the fray as the newest in the genre, telling the story of a man who is not a part of the dirigible riding, mechanized-monocle crowd. He lives below them in a desperate town where survival is the name of the game. Combining a steampunk story with that of an underdog has me excited to read this new series from Boom! Studios.

Buy these comics at your local comic book store (Don’t know where that is? Here you go.), from Things From Another Universe, or digitally via Comixology.com.

  1. I hear that the secret identity of Thor is revealed. I’d like to hear people’s opinions on that one.
