Once Upon A Time, a lonely god made a promise and took up a name. The promise was to never be cowardly or cruel – to never give in and never give up. The name he took was The Doctor. Since that time, The Doctor has come to be known by hundreds of names in thousands of languages across millions of worlds and billions of years. Yet in his own head, he still calls himself The Doctor – the man who makes it all better.

Traveling the whole of reality in his ship, The TARDIS, The Doctor is capable of going anywhere at anytime. Despite this, he most often seems to wind up traveling to wherever he is needed – whether he likes it or not!

Recently, The Doctor had an encounter with The Mindmorphs – a race of alien parasites who drained the knowledge and intelligence from other species. The Doctor might have wound up their latest victim had it not been for his companions – comic writer Sonny and comic artist Val – whose combined imagination proved too much for the logically-minded Mindmorphs to cope with.

With Sonny and Val having found new inspiration for their comics as well as love with each other, The Doctor returned them to their proper place in space and time and set off for new adventures on his own. What wonders might he discover in a submarine cruise on the world of New Oceana? And what will prompt him to seek out his former companion, 40th Century rock-star Hattie Munroe?

This first chapter of Beneath The Waves will prove a welcome appetizer for those Doctor Who fans anxiously awaiting the main course of Series Ten this weekend. It was a good bit of planning on Titan Comics’ part to release this book this week. George Mann continues to impress as the author of The Twelfth Doctor series, perfectly capturing the voice of Peter Capaldi’s Doctor and spinning tales worthy of the TV show. The artwork by Mariano Laclaustra and Carlos Cabrera proves equally astounding. If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll be a fan of this comic. And if you aren’t a fan of the show, this comic may make you into one!

Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor: Year Three #1 will be available for purchase on April 12, 2017 from your local comic book store (Don’t know where that is? Here you go.) or digitally via Comixology.com.
