[WARNING: The following review contains some minor SPOILERS.]

Teleportation! The dream of every scientist, right after realistic sex droids. And Doctor Venture has done it! Well, technically Pete White and Billy Quizboy have done it, but Doctor Venture is just continuing the fine tradition of his father and Thomas Edison – claiming credit for other people’s work and passing it off as your own. It’s the American Way!

Unfortunately, so is the government and the rich people who really run things getting nervous about game-changing scientific achievements. So faster than you can say The Man In The White Suit, the OSI is pulling Doctor Venture aside to discuss the ramifications of teleportation on society at large with some… illuminated minds.

Meanwhile, The Monarch has just been given a chance to jump up one whole level in The Guild of Calamitous Intent’s villain rankings. The bad news is he has to join a super villain team for one heist. The good news is that the heist involves Ven-Tech Tower and a chance to stick it to Doctor Venture.

Unfortunately, The Monarch wasn’t recruited for his expertise in fighting Doctor Venture and raiding his labs – they just needed another flying guy to act as the lookout since Tiny Eagle got Samsoned. And since The Monarch thought he was only attending a meeting to discuss joining the group rather than a pre-heist planning session immediately before the magic hour, he left his flying wings at home…

It somehow seems impossible that The Venture Bros hasn’t had Mark Hamill voice a character in its long history. Particularly since they already got Kevin Conroy to channel his inner Adam West to play Captain Sunshine and paid tribute to The Joker with Giggles The Clue Clown and Laugh Riot. To the surprise of no one, Hamill is instantly recognizable as the clown-themed shape-shifter Presto Change-o and sharp-eared fans will hear him voicing another character.

It speaks to how well “The Unicorn In Captivity” works as an episode that Hamill’s presence is a minor footnote instead of the core of the episode. As with most of the episodes this season, the focus is firmly on Doctor Venture trying to reassert his position as the world’s foremost super scientist despite his own laziness and The Monarch’s efforts to reestablish himself as Doctor Venture’s arch-enemy despite his ego. Naturally, things don’t go according to plan for either them, as Rusty finds himself in an incredibly awkward situation straight out of a classic thriller and The Monarch endures one indignity after another while trying to be a team player.

Though not as tightly plotted as Season Six, the larger storyline of this season does move forward a bit in this episode. That said, the goal of Jackson Publick’s script this time is to expand the universe while offering up as many laughs and in-jokes as possible. And make no mistake – there’s a LOT of in-jokes and laughs in this episode. And whatever you do, do not miss the post-credits stinger!
