Here at Kaboooooom we live and breathe comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should be checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s Kabooooom’s Pull List!
Matt Morrison
Pull List: Arrow: Season 2.5 #23 (Digital), Constantine The Hellblazer #2, Descender #5, Injustice: Gods Among Us – Year Four #10 (Digital), Justice League United #11
This Week’s Must Read: Swords of Sorrow #3
I don’t usually enjoy big crossover events. Yet I’ve loved Swords of Sorrow. Is it because of the stunning writing of Gail Simone? The fabulous artwork of Sergio Davilla? The sheer insanity of the concept of taking the greatest pulp heroines of all time and putting them all in one epic time-traveling, dimension-hopping adventure? I think it’s all that and more, plus the fact that a number of the future alternate covers – including this issue – will feature cosplayers dressed as the women of Dynamite Comics.
Marcus Hammond
Pull List: Batman #42, Batman/Superman #22, JLA #2, Descender #5, Saga #30, Shutter #13, Coffin Hill #20, Runaways #2, Inferno #3, Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #2, Age of Apocalypse #1
This Week’s Must Read: Starfire #2
Issue #1 was so incredibly good. The dialogue was witty, the characterizations were spot on, the story was the perfect mix of forward movement and back story, and the art showcased the talents of an artist many (unless you’ve been reading Supergirl) are unfamiliar with. In one issue, Starfire has become one of my personal favorites because of this issue. There’s nothing that makes me think that issue two won’t be more of the same.
Brandon Griffin
Pull List: Age of Apocalypse #1, Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #2, Spider-Verse #3, Spider-Island #1, Lando #1, Ghost Racers #2
This Week’s Must Read: Civil War #1
What a week for web-heads! Spider-books galore! Age of Apocalypse revisits another X-fan favorite, Ghost Racers #1 was surprisingly great hopefully #2 continues in the same vein, and we finally get to see what our old friend Lando was up to before we met him on Bespin. Still, it’s Civil War #1 that has me really excited to see what happens in the Warzone where the Stark/Rogers fight over the Super-Hero Registration Act never ended.
Byron Lafayette
Pull List:Will Eisner’s The Spirit: A Celebration of 75 Years
This Week’s Must Read: Rebels #4
Short list for this week but I had a hard time choosing between The Spirit collection and Rebels. I ended up choosing Rebels #4 as my must read for this week. The author Brian Wood is a great writer and has previously worked on such legendary titles as Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, and artist Andrea Mutti brings a visceral look to the pages that fits very well with the story of the war for American independence.
