Here at Kaboooooom we love our comic books, but if you’re new to the game or just don’t frequent the local comic shop, it can be hard to know where to start. For that, we’re here to help. Every week we’ll share with you our recommendations for what you should be checking out and what you need to know before you crack that cover – it’s Kabooooom’s Pull List!

Pull List: DC Comics Bombshells #10, The Walking Dead #152, A-Force #3, Black Widow #1
This Week’s Must Read: Another Castle #1
In this week’s pull list, each of us chose Oni Press’ Another Castle #1 by Andrew Wheeler and Paulina Ganucheau as our must read. This doesn’t happen often, so when it does, take note. I could have just as easily recommended Black Widow #1, but instead I chose Another Castle (as did everyone else). Surely that speaks of our strong desire for stories that not only feature women leads, but subvert and re-imagine familiar tropes. Here we have a story where the princess rescues herself and this in itself is sadly still a novelty in 2016.

This Week’s Must Read: Another Castle #1 [Review]
It’s a light week for me and not a lot of the new number ones this week were speaking to me. Yet this title, which I freely admit got my attention mostly for the Super Mario Bros. reference in the title, has piqued my interest. The artwork on the cover reminds me of Steven Universe and I love send-ups of the traditional video game/fairy tale with a princess rescuing herself.

This Week’s Must Read: Another Castle #1
I’ve been hearing word about this title for a little while now. Hailing from one of my favorite comic publishers, Another Castle looks like it’s got all that and a bag of colors. Writer, Andrew Wheeler teams up with Paulina Ganucheau (artist of the Dark Horse title Zodiac Starforce) to bring yet another castle to the table, or rather feast hall. Misty’s got problems in the form of a ruler of a neighboring kingdom, an inconvenient marriage, and the pleas of the citizens of Grimoire. Pair that with a less than gallant prince and I’d say she’s got her hands full, but fear not since she’s more than ready to take up arms in her quest for more excitement; although, it’s hard to say if she expected this much of it.
Buy these comics at your local comic book store (Don’t know where that is? Here you go.), from Things From Another Universe, or digitally via Comixology.com.
